A Few Words from Charlie the Macaw

“It’s about time, I say! Enough pictures and videos of those mangy mutts. They drink out of the toilet and smell like piggy ears. It’s time for someone with a higher intelligence level and beauty to take the stage.”

Hello Dear Readers and soon to be amorous fans of the flock,

I’m Charlie, Lauren’s Blue and Gold majestic macaw. My multicolored teal and periwinkle tailfeathers and four-foot wingspan are enough to impress most people, before I even start to sing and dance, but now Mom has given me an actual voice. It’s true that an average macaw doesn’t have an expansive vocabulary, but the words we know have different meanings and only the smart humans can ascertain the difference in our voice inflections.

For instance, I learned Mom’s name within three days of my gotcha day—that’s the day Mom brought me home. I would say it for food, for play, for attention, or to call other ladies to the cage.

It turns out that Mom had lost her home in the flood that swept away half of the neighborhood, but she decided to take me in anyway. After we moved to our new home Mom gave me my own free-flight room.

I would love to tell you it was love at first sight, but I am a fickle teenager who falls head-over-heels, and then two weeks later I’m onto the next obsession.

I admit, I gave Mom a bit of a hard time, but she never gave up on me. Justin Bieber music played all day, every day, just to appease me until Dad was nearly in tears. Dad isn’t really a Belieber. He’s more of an opera kind of guy, but he doesn’t fully appreciate my aria attempts.

When I look back on the past four years, I can say that Mom did more than pass the test. She aced it! She never gave up on making our relationship work and did everything in her power to make me happy… except exterminating those canine beasts she calls “puppies”. I’m still working on that. I stand on my highest perch, overlooking the dog’s den, and think of ways to be rid of them. I do a lot of telepathy stares from above, and my latest musings have landed me a STARRING role in Mom’s next book, Hurricane Kisses!

If you ordered GINGERBREAD KISSES, (Book 4 in the HOT IN MAGNOLIA Series) you can read about me in the sneak peek at the end. For identity reasons, I asked Mom to change my name to Chica. It sounded prettier and more feisty. I think Chica will be my alter-ego from now on.

I can’t wait for HURRICANE KISSES to come out! You can also see my buddies, Green-go Star the quaker parrot, Rocket the severe macaw, and Lulu the cockatiel co-star in Mom’s latest Magnolia adventure. Plus, I can’t wait to see how the heroine, Cecilia Lockwood, turns everything around. I mean, wasn’t she the mean Magnolia Blossom president in book one? Well, something tells me that the evil witch has got some lessons to learn, and Prince Charming will either sweep her away in his arms or give her a shove on her broom. I vote for the latter. I love watching a good broom shove. It does us all a little good when we sit on our high perch too long. It shakes things up and makes us appreciate the space we live in— plus, it makes for good conflict in a story. But with nice guy, John Archer, on the scene, and Celia desperate to find a man with money, my birdseed is on Celia taking him for a flight to Heart-Break City. This is where I do my evil macaw laugh. I’ll let you in on a little secret—birds have a fantastic sense of humor and we love a good joke, especially when it’s on someone else.

I have a feeling this will be mom’s funniest romance novel yet. So pucker up and get ready for another HOT IN MAGNOLIA story. It’s in the works now.
