Earth Day and Wildflowers

Mammals. Birds. Even lizards are celebrated on Earth Day. Often wildflowers are overlooked.

Certain years the Llano Estacado gets the right weather conditions with rains, warmer temperatures, and lesser freezing days. Those conditions come together bringing the sandy soils to life with a magical carpet of primroses, spectacle pods, scrambled eggs, Tahoka daisy, and beeblossom – just to name a few.

This year is one of those years. To those who say wildflowers do not exist on the Llano Estacado have never experienced the beauty of them finding ways to grow and thrive amongst the plowed fields, CRP pastures, or even along the highways.
