Flags of Appreciation

Flags of Appreciation

Last Friday, I was coming back into town. Looking for traffic before crossing the street, my eyes landed on these flags waving in the winds.

Taking a detour I went to see them better and take a photo. Upon initial glance you think both flags had been through a fire. The next morning I posted the photo to Facebook to ask what the story was behind the flags.

The answer will surprise you, as it did me.

Those are mine I try to show a little appreciation of what this country and state have given me the opportunity to accomplish

Hopefully it brings a smile or a good memory to someone passing by or having a bad day And to honor all our heroes And the black on the American flag is grease from the machine i think it looks good bc this is oil coutry

Never backdown never surrender

Never be scared of success

What a meaningful story. It had me nasty crying. I had no idea the deeper meaning behind the flags.

Yes, I love, love the oil story. Without oil and all of the workers in the industry our lives would not be the same.

Others commented on the post from the community. Here are their thoughts.

I’m proud to see that beautiful oil stained flag flying! Whether it’s got oil stains on it or if it’s pristine, it represents our country’s greatness and the men and women that have served, protecting our freedom……with some giving the ultimate sacrifice. The stains are a great symbol of the working folks in our country. The folks that keep our country moving and progressing. For without the oil industry, we would be a 3rd world country.

Worn and tethered so they are. The beauty and meaning are still there.

Fly them high fly them proud. God Bless America.

What else do you notice in the photo? Take a look at the Texas flag. My photo became a teaching moment, not only to me but others. The white in the Texas flag should always be on top. One of his workers had hung wrong. It was later fixed.

I’m glad I asked for the story. It was so much meaningful . Stories are out there ready to be shared. All it takes is simply asking, opening up conversations, and learning from each other.

Be inspired. Open up your world to the stories of others. Be in the moment. ❤️
