After tragedy upends her world, Jeannette Mason retreats to the tiny Oregon seaside town of Hope Harbor to create a new life. Vowing to avoid emotional attachments, she focuses on running her lavender farm and tea-room—until a new neighbor with a destructive dog and a forlorn little girl invades her turf. But she needn’t worry. Dr. Logan West is too busy coping with an unexpected family, a radical lifestyle change, and an unruly pup to have any interest in his aloof and disagreeable neighbor.

Yet when both Jeanette and Logan find themselves pulled into the life of a tattered Christian family fleeing persecution in war-torn Syria, might they discover that love sometimes comes calling when it’s least expected?

Bestselling and award-winning author Irene Hannon invites readers back to the charming seaside town of Hope Harbor, where they are sure to find peace, healing, and a second chance at happiness.

Driftwood Bay – My Book Review

Normally, I don’t read romance novels, but after reading Sandpiper Cove by Irene Hannon I was anxious to read Driftwood Bay, especially since the cover has another dog on the beach.

Driftwood Bay did not disappoint from the first page to the last and here’s why.

Life is full of disappointments on many levels. We’ve all experienced happiness, loss, death, and love. Grief winds its way through our hearts all in different ways. Life is also full of unexpected blessings and happiness. Most of the blessings come at times when we least expect them.

Driftwood Bay combines this and more, along with a dog named Toby. Driftwood Bay interweaves two different stories of loss around two little girls amongst the cast of characters who’ve experienced profound loss in the U.S. and in Syria. There is a love story surrounding the main characters of Logan and Jeannette and Hannon presents it in an uplifting way. The characters back-stories are told so well in this book where a reader does not get bogged down.

What is beautiful about Hannon’s writing is how she merges and connects the characters in amazing ways throughout her book. The story envelopes you. For example, we all want to live in a town that is full of people who are willing to help at the drop of a hat. Seriously, who would not want to live in a town like Hope Harbor?

One great line from Driftwood Bay states that flowers are not the same as a family but they do make life more beautiful when you don’t have a family.

One of the best lines from the book, “Don’t let fear stop you from being what God intended for you to be.” That’s a powerful statement to keep in mind when living life. Driftwood Bay is a book you read to uplift you when your own life is chaotic and feeling hopeless. It will help you optimistically overcome your fears and follow that path that God intended for you.

This book is well written making it a quick read. Thankfully, as a dog lover, I loved the fact that Toby continued to be a character throughout the book.
