Interview with Bill Briscoe

Who is an author you feel was influential in your work?

New York Times Best Selling author Jodi Thomas inspired me to write. She always makes me feel I can be successful, always encouraging. I’m still working on the success thing.

Is there one genre you would never write?

I would never write romance! I’m a bumbling idiot when I try to write a love scene. It sucks. My editor never said so, but I know she thinks it, too.

What do you want your tombstone to say?

I want “I told you I was sick.” That’s not original. I read it somewhere, and I liked it.

If you were an animal in a zoo, what would you be? Tell us why in four words or less.

A gorilla. Power and graceful.

What’s something interesting, fun, or funny that most people don’t know about you? I like beer and vanilla ice cream floats.

What is your favorite quote? Yogi Berra quotes. I end my newsletter with one. My favorite is: “I don’t know if it was men or women streaking naked across the field. They had bags over their heads.”

Do you have a mantra for life? Things will work out in the end. If things are not working out, it’s not the end.

Bill grew up in the oil and gas refinery town of Phillips in the Texas Panhandle. After graduating from college with a master’s degree, he spent most of his career working for a major insurance company as an agency manager and consultant.

As his retirement was on the horizon, he had an idea about a book. That story, Pepperman’s Promise, became the prequel to The Pepperman Mystery Series, and Perplexity and Panic Point, the next two books in the series, are now available.
Bill and his wife of fifty years live in West Texas.
