I have never understood why sparrows are so jumpy when all you want to do is take their photograph. They are so hard to capture because they simply refuse to stay still. Finally, with the increasing wind of this day, these Lark Sparrows paused long enough for me to take this photo.
This species is a frequent guest on the Llano Estacado and in the Rolling Plains regions of Texas during Spring and Summer. It is quite rare to capture both a male and a female in the same photo.
Location: Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge, April 2023.
