A hook-up turned lethal. A spurned, angry cowboy. Can rebel Maggie turn the tables before a killer adds her to the list of lost causes?

Washed-up alt-country rocker-turned-junker Maggie Killian is pulled to Wyoming by an irresistible force . . . former bull rider Hank Sibley, the man who broke her heart fifteen years before. When she unexpectedly meets his Sunday school-teaching girlfriend at a saloon, Maggie seeks liquor-fueled oblivion between the sheets of a younger man’s bed. But after her beloved vintage truck breaks down and leaves her stranded in the Cowboy State, she learns her hook-up died minutes after leaving their rendezvous. Suddenly surrounded by men with questionable motives, Maggie searches for the murderer while fighting the electricity between herself and her old beau, and her new penchant for local whiskey.

When the police zero in on Maggie despite a disturbing series of break-ins at her guest cabin, she realizes she’s got no one to rely on but herself. To keep herself happily in bars instead of behind them, she must stop the killer before the cops realize the man she really suspects is a jealous, angry Hank.

Live Wire is the first standalone book in a trilogy featuring sharp-tongued protagonist Maggie Killian from the addictive What Doesn’t Kill You romantic mystery series. If you like nerve-racking suspense, electric characters and relationships, and juicy plot twists, then you’ll love USA Today best seller Pamela Fagan Hutchins’ Silver Falchion award-winning series.

Live Wire – My Review

Louise noses her hand. The dog is like an emotional barometer.

Maggie strokes her floppy ears. “I should have never left Texas.

Everything’s broke. My piggy bank, my heart, and my truck.”

WHAT? You can’t leave me hanging like this, Pamela?

That is the gift of bringing readers back…

That’s exactly how I felt after reading the last few sentences of Live Wire. What a bronc ride of a story! I’ll gladly add the next book to my MUST be READ list to find out where this story goes!

Pamela Hutchins shaped Live Wire so well that I never lost interest due to the twists and turns of the main characters with the murders intermingled carrying the story. Trust me when I say I was not expecting the first murder. It literally came out of the blue.

I immediately connected to this is a story because it’s a story where most of us have been with a former love interest. And, honestly, how many of us would raise our hand if there have been times in our lives that we simply don’t feel like adulting?

Maggie’s character is down to earth relatable in many ways from her self-doubt to her taking the bull by the horns to clear her own name in a murder investigation. Of course, there is a dog named, Louise who looks quite odd by its short legs, that latches onto Maggie quickly and never let’s go. Thankfully, Maggie recognized that Louise had become her dog and did not leave her behind.

Finally, someone explains the mystery of the hands high measurement of a horse in a way that I’ll remember. I’ll always wonder if Pamela loves Russian olive trees as much as I do? Their fragrance is one of nature’s scents that should be bottled.

She breathes in the scent of the Russian olive trees wafting up

from the creek one last time—the invaders on their way out, like her—

and savors the fingers of wind in her unruly hair.

When no one and nothing stops her, she reaches in the half-open

window and ruffles Louise’s ears. “It’s just you and me now, Fucker.”

It’s not often I openly state I love, love a book. This is one book I love and that I wish I had had physically in my hand to have enjoyed the story all the more. I do look forward to reading the continued story of these characters. Hopefully, nothing will happen to Louise! Woof!
