Hidden fortune. Hidden danger. Madison Reynolds deCordova is about to uncover a dangerous secret…literally.

During In a Pinch Professional Services’s latest gig at an upholstery shop, Madison finds a chair that’s perfect for her husband’s birthday gift. At least it will be, once she removes the worn velvet. Hiding the chair at Granny Bert’s, Madison tackles her first solo upholstery project but soon discovers more than she bargained for! A hidden treasure beneath the cushion puts her in the middle of a new mystery and new danger.

The treasure isn’t her only problem. While helping a young boy find his lost dog, Madison lands on the wrong side of surly businessman Lamont Andrews. Meanwhile, best friend Genny is worried about one of her café patrons. Mr. Pruett’s wild stories are getting wilder each day, and now he’s missing. Plus, there’s the matter of a troublesome new habit Maddy seems to have acquired: breaking and entering. It’s a harsh term for simply trying to rescue a dog and save an old man.

Somehow, she knows it all fits together. But what does a lost dog, a cluttered old barn, Mr. Pruett’s disappearance, and a hidden treasure have to do with her chair? Now someone is stalking her and her grandmother, and Madison knows that danger is on its way.

As always, The Sisters are full of fun, excitement, family antics, and more danger than the law allows!

Unspoiled Mystery With a Pup – My Book Review

“Served him right for not coming around more often. He was your grandfather’s oldest brother, but you barely knew him because he stayed in his fancy house in the city all the time. It wasn’t your fault that you mistook him for a stranger offering kisses and candy. You kicked him where it mattered, just like I taught you,” Granny Bert said with satisfaction.

I am a pushover for stories with dogs. If a book has a dog and nothing happens to said pooch then I’ll most likely fall in love with the book.

Enter Sitting on a Fortune by Becki Willis. This book is Book 9 in The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series. The story almost immediately starts off with a young boy hiring Madison to find his dog named Pup. The story then winds around the mystery of a chair that will soon become a birthday gift. What falls out of the chair leads to the mystery of reading historical journals to uncover the truth about the hidden objects. But that’s not all, a man named Tom, becomes involved with his countless unproven stories one of which was being in the Secret Service. Sadly, everyone in town thinks he’s a kook because the stories themselves are so far-fetched.

With the help of Madison’s best friend Genny, they both become involved in the disappearance of Pup and later of Tom. The Book 9 story weaves around the dog, the gold, and who Tom really is. Plus, what small town is not ruled by the gossip of the current day or it’s past? This book review title is aptly unspoiled because, in the end, I could not guess any of the mysteries.

Willis has my respect for her factual research on her books, especially incorporating unknown historical facts are what makes her books stand out. Do you know about Executive Order 6102 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933? Well – you’ll learn about it in this book. How many states can gold be found in? You’ll learn in this book.

Becki has a magnificent technique of writing these books in this series to stand alone. This is the third book I’ve read by Becki and her best strengths lie in her in writing and crafting of stories with true to life dialogue that makes her books feel like you are reading about old family friends. Check out this quick read for some history lessons and an unspoiled mystery. Check out The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series if you love feeling like your surrounded by family.
