PRAISE FOR DEATH IN D MINOR:

Death in D Minor – My Review
“The colors are wrong. Too bright. Eighteenth century fabric dyes were mostly plant-based. They produced colors far more muted than chemical dyes. Think indigo blue instead of royal or Mediterranean.”
I was thrilled to read and review the latest installment in the Gethsemane Brown Mystery series by Alexia Gordon. It did not disappoint. The author brilliantly carries the story of Gethsemane into her second mystery novel, Death in D Minor. In this book, Gethsemane finds herself caught up in a world of multiple murders and art fraud and even finds herself conjuring a ghost.
Who knew the art world could be so intriguing? Gordon’s latest story, which still reminds me of “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir,” continues around main character Gethsemane Brown and offers up twists and turns abounding in this fast-paced, multi-faceted story set in Ireland. Throughout the book, subtle facts are mixed in the story, e.g., of how light fades colors in artwork and textiles overtime. These details really added an extra layer of interest to the story.
Death in D Minor weaves a mystery around murders due to an art inheritance, a five hundred-year-old grudge, and discovering a local art crime ring. As in Murder in G Major, book one in the series, this story entangles Gethsemane into being both an amateur detective and amateur ghost conjurer. What she summons up is not what she expected, but is it really the ghost she wanted? You’ll have to read the book to find out, but suffice it to say that the ghost in question ties the story together well.
As a reader, I’d still like to see more conversations between Gethsemane and “her ghost.” Particularly with the final bit of dialogue, I wanted the next book in hand to continue reading the story. I have thoroughly enjoyed both books in this series and can’t wait to see what new adventures await Gethsemane and her ghost(s).
