WEALTH AND FAME IN THE WILD WEST ARE WHAT LOMAX SEEKS . . . HIS OWN BAD LUCK IS WHAT STANDS IN HIS WAY.
Swindled out of a mining fortune in Colorado and blamed for an ensuing murder, H. H. Lomax two decades later must finally face up to his past in Skagway, Alaska. Along the way, he encounters legendary madam Mattie Silks, suffragist Susan B. Anthony, novelist Jack London, and a talking dog.
To survive his previous missteps and avoid a prison sentence for theft, Lomax must outshoot infamous Western conman Soapy Smith, outwit an unrelenting Wells Fargo investigator, and outrun Shotgun Jake Townsend, the greatest frontier assassin who never was.

North to Alaska is a 1960 movie starring John Wayne. I have loved the movie since I first watched it. I am so thankful I got to review a book with the same title with many parts reminding me of the movie.

North to Alaska, An H.H. Lomax Western, by Preston Lewis, is a riveting Western tale on many accounts. This is Book 6 on the vast accounts of H.H. Lomax.

In North to Alaska Lomax’s travels’ take him to Colorado, then westward to San Francisco, and then northward to Alaska. Lomax is a humble, likable character who has ways of finding quick money and his comebacks are just as quick-thinking.

I super loved the addition of Susan B. Anthony in this story. The addition of her was quite timely in this book due to the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment on August 18, 1920. Oh my, my imagination ran a little wild thinking about Lomax and Susan getting married.

Lomax finds himself in Alaska. He wants to find his fortune in gold yet becomes a partner in a saloon. The best part of the story is when Lomax’s gentle heart shined when he saved Buck and then is lost saving Lomax’s life. To be honest I wish there had been more of Buck talking.

If you have followed this book series, then you will be following up with a long-time friend, Lomax. Most definitely this book can be a stand-alone. Always, always the best parts of Preston’s books are that they are dialogue-driven. I never tired of this story that is at times is quite riveting.

Preston Lewis is the Spur Award-winning author of thirty novels. In addition to his two Western Writers of America Spurs, he received the 2018 Will Rogers Gold Medallion for Western Humor for Bluster’s Last Stand, the fourth volume in his comic western series, The Memoirs of H. H. Lomax. Two other books in that series were Spur finalists. His comic western The Fleecing of Fort Griffin received the Elmer Kelton Award from the West Texas Historical Association for best creative work on the region.
