Naïve but charismatic farm girl, Jacquelyn Benderman, has her life perfectly planned until her town blames her for the accidental death of the local high school’s star running back. Feeling like a pariah, she flees to Austin, Texas where her luck seems to change. Her rapid rise to stardom as a blues diva is derailed when an anonymous stalker begins systematically murdering her associates, leaving the police to suspect her.
As Y2K approaches, she wrestles with the guilt of falling for her roommate, a Romanian folk singer who survives as a call-girl, while the show band she sings with rehearses for a national tour.
Can she protect her new lover from danger? Will the world end at midnight? Is there no hiding place when everyone knows who you are?

What a wild ride, author Tony Burnett crafted with Watermelon Tattoo. Even saying a wild ride is tame compared to the story that unfolds in the pages of this book.

Watermelon Tattoo is a story woven around its main character, Jacqui. She is a small-town Texas girl who grew up on a watermelon farm. She knows how to run a tractor and has a singing voice that makes audiences cheer. This story unfolds about young love and tragic loss. As the story continues to unfold it becomes deeper, deeper, intermixed with characters finding themselves, along with a few murders.

This story revolves around Jacqui whose first love dies tragically in her arms. From there this book takes you on a wild ride of adult themes from the Austin music scene, to drug use, to snippets of Wicca, and of course sex.

Hands down the bestest parts of this story were how Jacqui’s dad wholeheartedly accepted his daughter and the love of her girlfriend and how Jacqui’s love for her girlfriend showed through as being real at the very end.

If you are looking for a story that will get you through for a plane ride between New York to Los Angeles or even passing the time in an airport in case of flight delays, then do not pass this up and check out Watermelon Tattoo. It will leave your mind spinning with its fast-paced story.  Seriously, this book is like watching a nonstop film of Quentin Tarantino’s.
