Whiskey on Our Shoes by author Tonya Preece is a quirky, quick read. This story is uniquely presented with its dialogue between the characters.

The story follows a young romance of Eva and Alex whose own voices move this story along.  They both come from different worlds, one a ranching life and one a limelight of rock n roll who disguises herself while in public to protect her identity. Their story begins with a serendipitous moment caused by Eva’s brother, Lor. You cannot have a story without drama and there is plenty of drama on both sides with Eva and her famous model mom and dads to Alex and his former older lover.

Whiskey on Our Shoes is set in Austin, Texas. It is quite a little fast-paced love story. While it is well-written and energetic as the young characters themselves, there were some continuity issues within the story, but they are minor.

I love the references to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A show that is timeless and is shared by all the main characters.

Loved many things about this story. Especially how the characters evolved given their challenges. Adored the incorporation of Alex’s sister in this story which shows the heart of Eva very deeply.  Perfect touch by Preece. It is the minor touches that make a fab story.
