Book 8

It’s the most anticipated wedding of the year in The Sisters, when Madison Reynolds and Brash deCordova finally tie the knot!

Wedding preparations are underway, but the aisle to the altar gets rockier by the minute.

Their support is humbling, but the community’s enthusiasm soon threatens to hijack the wedding. Squeeze in a suspicious death during a Texas Independence Day celebration, the needy new widow Madison befriends, and an unscrupulous politician trying to unseat Brash as chief of police, and the path seems littered with obstacles.

Madison will move mountains, however, to marry the man of her dreams. All they really need is each other, their children by their side, and a preacher to make it official. In an effort to please everyone, the couple opts for a private ceremony followed by a public celebration. It’s the perfect Wildflower Wedding, but who knew it would end in a killer reception?

Cantankerous Nigel Barrett hired In a Pinch Professional Services to find his estranged family, but it takes more than a home DNA test to locate his next of kin. Madison suspects he was searching for an heir, but when the wealthy rancher is killed at their reception, she’ll settle for finding someone to attend his funeral.

From the author of Forgotten BoxesPlain Roots, and the Spirits of Texas Cozy Mysteries, enjoy book eight of the award-winning reader favorite The Sisters, Texas Series.

For maximum enjoyment, follow the series from the beginning. Readers say, “It’s like visiting with old friends!”

“No definite matches so far. Anytime a name pops us, he assumes it’s a niece or nephew. He calls a dozen times a day, giving me new leads and new suggestions. So far, none of them has panned out. That’s why I hoped you knew a shortcut!”

Author, Becki Willis, weaves a phantasmagorical story around a wedding and a few murders. Wildflower Wedding with a Killer Reception is Book 8 of The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series. While I only read the synopses of the other books, Becki crafted the Wildflower Wedding story so well that I did not feel like I missed out on anything in Book 8.

I loved and adored this fast-paced, historical, mystery fiction book that left me guessing at the end on the why’s of the murders. I figured out about half-way through the book who was doing the killing, but the motives behind those killings did not come to light until the very end of the book. That’s what creates this intriguing book mystery.

Becki giftedly weaves things into this book like that sometimes sections of Texas are bigger than Manhattan alone and that maybe screaming at our computers do, in fact, decrease our stress levels. I know yelling at my computer at times helps my stress levels.

“It’s a proven fact that yelling at the computer screen releases endorphins and lowers stress levels.”

One character in these books is the grandmother. Everyone needs a Granny Bert in their lives if either in their past or the present. People like Granny Bert just make lives better. Period. Becki Willis beautifully portrays Granny Bert with such accuracy that it’s quite real to life.

Yes — this is a historical fiction mystery, and most of the elements of this book have a lot of historical accuracies. One of the main themes of Wildflower Wedding is the element of historical reenacting, and Willis is precise in how she portrays the world of historical reenactors.

The passages of the Madison going to the McLennan County Courthouse in Waco brought back good memories for me. I’ve personally done research at the McLennan County Courthouse archives and I recall the courthouse is huge, the deputies very friendly, and the archives themselves were unique.

Regarding historical accuracies, one passage truly stuck out given some recent research I conducted. Take a look at this quote:

“The car’s wheels churned in the grasses, plowing through a thick blanket of bluebonnets. “It’s illegal to pick them. Hope it’s not illegal to run them over,” she muttered darkly, as the car bounced up and down, chomping its way across the state flower.”

While the book is mostly historically accurate, one passage caught my eye given some research I recently conducted. In the book, a character makes the statement that it’s illegal to pick bluebonnets. That was true from 1933 until the law was overturned in 1973. You can read more in my post about the Wildflower Protection Act.

The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series is one entire collection I’ll be adding to my library. This is the second book I’ve read by Becki and her best strengths lie in her in writing and her crafting of stories with true to life dialogue that makes her books feel like you are reading about old family friends. Check out The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series if you love feeling like your surrounded by family.
