Ready to learn the magic of science? Metals and all the other elements from the periodic table make everything seem magical. You can see it everywhere: in buildings, transportation, communications, medicines, and even in the food you eat! All technology and everything that makes life modern come from the magical elements in the earth, water, and the air.

Think of it like this, “No Metal – No Magic…and No Tech-no-lo-gy.” You can learn about all that stuff in this book called The Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically by The Metal Horn Unicorns. Twenty-six techno-magical elements are presented from A to Z by the magical metal horn unicorn tribe from Unimaise.

Every element page includes:
*where the featured element comes from*
*when it was discovered*
*scientific info about the element*
*everyday uses for it*
*a bunch of interesting facts*
*a unicorn who wields its magical powers representing each element*

The book also has an amazing unicorn-themed periodic table plus special pages featuring elemental compounds and alloys. Now, that’s Techno-Magical!

This bright colorful book is fantabulous that deals with one of my favorite subjects – chemistry.

Teaching kids chemistry is challenging. Making that teaching engaging to that kids will not get lost or not care is even more of a challenge. In Sybrina Durant’s book, The Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically by The Metal Horn Unicorns she presents the vast periodic table with a parred down theme of No Metal. No Magic. And No Technology.

Her presentation of this connection to chemistry metals is perfect. With each of the elements she shares, she gives readers the metal element, atomic structure, simple facts, and did you know summaries. Tied to these to help make the connection better are theis the magical metal unicorns with really cool names like Questa, Wolfie, Jody, and Erbie to name a few. She incorporates the magical abilities of these unicorns by showing how the element gives them magical power.

Each page is a snippet of the importance of that element that without it there would be no technology or no magic. Of course, I imagine seeing each of these unicorns coming to life in stuffed animals allowing the kids to take home one for a week to discover that element in their surroundings and empowering them to understand that without that element they do not have a superpower.

Durant has done a fab job of writing an engaging chemistry book that even I wish I had read long ago. A periodic table is presented and explained in a manner that is understandable. I only wish the periodic table were a tad larger or more spaced out to help make those connections to our everyday life.  I love how she follows up with Teachers Paying Teachers activity sets to complement this book.  Science and conservation teachers need this book use it to teach chemistry.

Plus, you learn a whole lot of cool facts like dysprosium is used in some data storage devices, fluorine is used as a water repellant, and electric guitar strings are made from nickel.

Chemistry as a science helps us understand how things are made. The Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically by The Metal Horn Unicorns is a fantabulous foundation to help get kids interested and excited about chemistry at its basic levels by taking on the world of chemistry one unicorn at a time.

Sybrina Durant is a unicorn author and entrepreneur. In addition to books, she offers unicorn-themed activities, t-shirts, and more.
